Mary - Highly Favored

Luke 1:26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[b] the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

Are You Willing? You are called.

Gosh it has been a long time since I’ve posted anything.  I apologize for the silence.  I went into a bit of slump/depression over the summer and had to pray my way out of it. I am so glad to be back in the new monthly meetings and loving the changes. We had a lady by the name of Eva Dell Mitchell speak to us at our September meeting. If you missed it, she was absolutely amazing. Her story was so very raw, and yet so very powerful.

Parched and Dry - Running on Empty

Have you ever been thirsty – and I mean really really thirsty? I remember my daughter telling me of a trip she and her husband made out to the desert area outside of Las Vegas. They had not prepared for the excursion, and did not have any water with them.  There was no water anywhere near available for sale, and they got extremely thirsty.  They realized they should have prepared - you would never go to a desert without bringing water - right? Just like we should never expect to go into the world to fight evil, to stave off evil - without being prepared.

When in Rome (Do not destroy the work of God)

I Cor. 1:10-11 “I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you.”

Show Up

1 Corinthians 12 :12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?18 But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty,24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it,25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

The Presence of God

Years ago, my husband David was sick, I was traveling back and forth from Alexandria for work, and my kids were very young. Meagan wasn’t even a year old, and David was in and out of hospital for months. I was deflated and really beaten down. My parents and David’s parents were getting my kids from daycare for me, and I would grab them late at night and try to spend an hour with them before putting them to bed, only to repeat it all again the next day. I would go to the hospital each evening to spend time with David. It was a tough time for all of us. One day while at work I got a bouquet of flowers from a friend with the verse of “come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.”   It was something I had known in my heart and yet I had allowed my circumstances to make me lose sight of that.
